Meet the Shepherds

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds[a] and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. - Ephesians 4:11-16

Pastors

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. - 2 Timothy 4:2

  • Lead Pastor

Joseph Spurgeon serves as the lead pastor of Sovereign King Church, having been ordained by Evangel Presbytery. He is a husband, father, author, and preacher, committed to proclaiming the whole counsel of God and calling men to lead in their homes, churches, and society.

Joseph is happily married to his wife, Rowina, and together they are raising eight childrenJasmine, Ariana, Charles, Calvin, Rocky, Ezra, Hezekiah, and Hadassah. As a father, he is passionate about biblical manhood, which led him to write “It’s Good to Be a Boy!” and “It’s Good to Be a Girl!”, books that teach children the beauty of God’s design.

Beyond pastoring, Joseph is deeply committed to ending abortion, defending the unborn, and calling men to bold, biblical leadership. He hosts The Patriarchy Podcast, where he encourages men to take responsibility and stand firm in their God-given roles.

Joseph’s journey to ministry was not a straight path. Though raised in a Christian home, he initially resisted his calling. Like Jonah, he ran—but God runs faster. It was through John Calvin’s "Institutes of the Christian Religion" and Keith Green’s song "Asleep in the Light", encountered during a trip to the Philippines, that God convicted him, humbled him, and set him on the course for pastoral ministry. Looking back, he wonders why he ever fled in the first place.

His life stands as a testament to God’s grace, calling even the most reluctant hearts to His purpose

  • Assistant Pastor

Gregory Anglen serves as the Assistant Pastor at Sovereign King Church and Headmaster of Sovereign King Academy. With over 15 years of student and family ministry experience and 7 years as a classroom teacher, he is passionate about strengthening families, equipping men to lead, and raising children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

Greg was originally ordained in the Southern Baptist Church, but his deep study of Reformed theology led him to transfer his ordination to Evangel Presbytery. His love for biblical education and discipleship extends beyond the pulpit, as he leads Sovereign King Academy, a hybrid Christian school dedicated to training the next generation in the truth of God’s Word.

Greg and his wife, Sarah, celebrated 22 years of marriage in 2025, and together they have been blessed with three children. Their eldest daughter, Olivia, was recently married and is expecting their first grandchild—a joyful new chapter for their family. They also have two teenage children, Delilah and Geoffrey, who continue to grow in the Lord.

As a husband, father, grandfather-to-be, pastor, headmaster, teacher, writer, and small-business owner, Greg seeks to glorify God in every aspect of life and to advance His kingdom through faithful service.

  • Ruling Elder

Mark Cox grew up in Charlestown, Indiana. As a young man, he served in the United States Marine Corps as a military policeman. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Indiana to raise his family.

The birth of his eldest daughter sparked a deep reverence for life and the fear of the Lord, ultimately leading to his conversion to Christianity. Since then, Mark has been devoted to serving Christ, defending life, and engaging with the culture for God's glory.

Mark is happily married to Melissa, and together they homeschooled their four children:

    • Caitlin (married to Justin Govanus)

  • Assistant Pastor

Aaron Sabie is a devoted servant of his King, Jesus Christ. Raised in a nominal Christian home, he professed faith early in life, walking an aisle and reciting a "sinner's prayer." However, it was not until the age of 35, after years of sinful rebellion, that he experienced genuine conversion—a work of God’s sovereign grace that radically transformed his life. His salvation is a daily reminder of his utter dependence on God’s mercy.

Aaron is happily married to Kellie, and together they have three children:

    • Madelyn (married to Rob Sands)

    • Henry

    • Samuel

He is also a proud grandfather, rejoicing in the blessing of seeing his family grow in the Lord.

Aaron’s background includes service in the U.S. Navy and extensive experience as a construction electrician. Whether through his trade, his family, or his church, he seeks to honor Christ in all that he does.

If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. - John 12:26
