Our Story:
At Sovereign King Church We are a reformed, evangelical, and Protestant church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, a church for real
people—real sinners—who have been rescued from the messes we ourselves have created and are striving by God's grace to grow to be like our King. We are unapologetic in the proclamation of God's
word, both within our community and to those around us. Through the transforming power of the gospel, we aim to build our lives, families, culture, and city upon God's word.
We confess Jesus is Lord! We proclaim His Word to all! We construct our lives on that Word!

When Mark and Melissa Cox first moved to Southern Indiana, they prayed that God would use their new home for his glory. Mark had a vision for a church in their community that would be confessionally reformed and evangelistic. Years passed as Mark and his family faithfully served in different cities and churches but they did not forget the vision for planting a church.
In 2015, Mark met Joseph Spurgeon and Aaron Sabie who were ministering outside of the abortion mill in Louisville, Kentucky. God knit their hearts together while they worked alongside each other to share the gospel. When Joseph graduated from seminary, he was searching for what God would have for him and his family. God gave these men the same vision and desire to see a reformed church that would proclaim all of God's word for all of life. In late 2016, a small bible study was started at the home of Mark Cox. Sovereign King Church was birthed from that bible study and became a church plant of Evangel Presbytery.
In February 2018, Sovereign King Church launched Sunday morning worship. In February 2019, Sovereign King Church moved from the basement of the Cox's home into the Carr Township Community Building for Lord's Day Worship. On March 7th, 2021 Sovereign King Church began meeting in Henryville and on April 11th, 2021 became particularized of Evangel Presbytery. That means it became a full fledged member church and is no longer considered a church plant. In March of 2022, the church moved to 332 E Chestnut St, Jeffersonville, IN 47130 with the mission of proclaiming the gospel throughout Southern Indiana.
Over the past few years, the Lord has given many opportunities to proclaim his gospel and to apply his word to every area of life. Sinners have been called to repentance and the good news of the grace of God has been preached in many different settings.
Men, women, and children have turned to Christ and have grown closer to Him. Men have begun to lead their homes in a Christ-Like manner and women have embraced their calling as wives and mothers.
Though Sovereign King is no longer considered a church plant, that does not mean the work of planting, watering, and harvesting is over. The Bible says the sower sows the word. The mission of Sovereign King is to be constantly sowing the Word and with the Lord’s help, plant the Word in all of Southern Indiana. Therefore, the work of confessing, proclaiming, and constructing continues.
