Dear Governor Holcomb,
Governor Eric Holcomb
200 W. Washington St., Rm. 206,
Indianapolis, IN 46204
Dear Governor Holcomb,
This morning in my time of Bible reading I read from the prophet Isaiah, chapter 32. Verse 1 says, “Behold, a king will reign righteously and princes will rule justly.” Isaiah was speaking of Hezekiah, King of Judah, one of the few good kings in the Old Testament. This civil leader worked to restore the worship of God and drive out those who would make sacrifices to idols—especially those who sacrificed their own sons and daughters. Hezekiah’s work of reformation foreshadowed the work of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the King who always reigns righteously.
This passage, while finding its ultimate fulfillment in Christ Jesus, is instructive for all who hold authority. Those who have authority, you included, are given that responsibility not primarily by voters but by God. Romans 13 says that God establishes authorities. This also means that all earthly authorities answer to God. A good authority will reign righteously and rule justly. He will follow the example of Hezekiah in protecting children.
For years, Indiana has been drenched in the blood of children sacrificed to prosperity, convenience, fear, and a so-called “right to choose”. Even though Indiana has a solid majority of Republicans in power, the State has given license to kill little ones in the womb. For 49 years, the Supreme Court has been the Republican leaders’ excuse for allowing this bloodshed. But now this excuse can no longer be used. We praise God that Roe V. Wade is overturned and yet there is still work to do.
Honorable Governor, it is time that Indiana state government reign righteously. It is time that governors and legislators rule justly. God’s Word is clear that the shedding of innocent blood must not be tolerated. As a pastor ordained by God, I call upon you to put your full support behind ending abortion in Indiana. Don’t just play a passive role by saying you will sign something if it gets to you. Don’t rely on plausible deniability if the legislature doesn’t act. God made you the man for this moment. If you lead the legislature to pass a bill like House Bill 1282 as put forth by Rep. Curt Nisly and Rep. John Jacob, the legislature will follow. I implore you in the name of the good King Jesus, protect the innocent children of our state.
You are not alone in this battle. There will be people who will rage against you. Some “woke” corporations will fight you. I cannot imagine the amount of political pressure you must be under, and I know few would be capable of handling it. But God has placed you here in this time. Know this: God’s people will support you, and most importantly, God will reward you.
Remember our Lord’s promise in Matthew 25, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.” Remember also his warning found in the same chapter, “‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Governor Holcomb, thank you for your service to our state. Sovereign King Church prays for you often. We pray that God will give you unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, repentance of sin, strength for the battles that lie ahead, and hope for the day of judgment.
May God bless you and the state of Indiana.
Respectfully yours,
