Confessions of a Church: Emasculated

Confessions of a Church: Emasculated

The Psalm writer wrote:  Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law. As we come before a Holy God and hear his word, may we have eyes open to the wonderful and fearful things from his law. May it move us to repent and seek forgiveness, fear disobedience, and live in light of the grace we have received.   This is the word of God.  It is eternally true and applicable for all of life.

Deuteronomy 23:1-9  “No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord. 2 No one of illegitimate birth shall enter the assembly of the Lord; none of his descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall enter the assembly of the Lord. 3 No Ammonite or Moabite shall enter the assembly of the Lord; none of their descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall ever enter the assembly of the Lord, 4 because they did not meet you with food and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you. 5 Nevertheless, the Lord your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because the Lord your God loves you. 6 You shall never seek their peace or their prosperity all your days. 7 “You shall not detest an Edomite, for he is your brother; you shall not detest an Egyptian, because you were an alien in his land. 8 The sons of the third generation who are born to them may enter the assembly of the Lord. 9 “When you go out as an army against your enemies, you shall keep yourself from every evil thing.

This is the word of the Lord.

Say the word emasculated and every man in the assembly here today knows what it means.
To bruise, wound, or crush.

Verse one goes even further and says that there are some who are not only emasculated in their organ, but cut off. Cut off.

Does the thought of this make you cringe?

We can look at the world of unbelievers and observe example after example of emasculated males.

They drive big trucks, talk real loud, guzzle beer, wave American flags, and boast about how the government better not "tread on me", all the while their wives whip them into submission with their mouths barking commands. These so called men  keep their mouths closed, drink another beer, play their video games and watch in apathy as their sons and daughters slip into oblivion with their effeminate, homosexual, abortion loving, God hating indifference. Oh well, live and let live.

This sounds horrible doesn't it?

It should, and what's more, it ought to strike you with Godly sorrow leading to repentance because here you are, in the assembly, emasculated.

Emasculated by your wives who have tongue lashed you into sitting silently as your children sin against God and you do nothing.

Emasculated by your addictions, to porn, your appetite for food, drink, and smokes.

Emasculated by your love of games, entertainment, and the delights of the world. Have you forgotten that love of the world is enmity with God?

Emasculated by your desire for ease, which has left you lazy and living as a poor steward of the blessings of God.

Emasculated by your pursuit of wealth, riches, and worldly status, as your wife and children are left behind starving for your time and affection.

Assembly, as used in verse one, is suggestive of the gathering of a war counsel. If you are an emasculated man, you have no part in this. You have no voice among men planning for war. Your love for sin has made you a de facto eunuch. Thank God we have a Savior Who can restore that which sin has sought to crush and cut off.

For thus says the Lord,
“To the eunuchs who keep My sabbaths,
And choose what pleases Me,
And hold fast My covenant,
To them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial,
And a name better than that of sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name which will not be cut off.
— Isaiah 56:4-5

At this time if you are able,  please kneel as we confess our sins and plead for mercy.

Heavenly Father,
Please forgive us for when we allow sin to cut us off from You and the assembly.  Forgive us Father when our love of sin, it's enticements and entanglements, profane your great Name.
Forgive us for the damage we do to our families when clinging to sin rather than trusting in Christ. Forgive us for allowing sin to emasculate us, rendering us impotent and ineffective for the Kingdom work You call us to. In Jesus's name we pray, Amen

Please stand and listen to the comforting assurance of the grace of God, promised in the gospel to his church:

Hebrews 2:11- 18 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, “I will proclaim Your name to My brethren, In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise.” And again, “I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.” Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.

To all those who thus repent and seek Jesus Christ for their salvation, your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Lift up your hearts!
